Launching this Wednesday will be the .tel domain ending sponsored by telnic. The domain is a top level domain, the intended use for this ending is for telecommunication companys and will be use mostly via dns much like the .mobi domain name. Although alike the .mobi name you can have a HTML frontend. .tel enables to create a communication portal online to manage in real time the way that clients can communicate with you.
As specified by telnic:
Unified contact directory services as text-based alternative to fragmented communications solutions
Registered names will be policed to weed out abusive registrations or registrants not in proper community
Direct second-level registrations will be allowed; digits will be restricted to avoid conflict with phone numbers
The domain has just entered its “sunrise” procedure. This month (November) mostly overlooked by the press the domain vip.tel was launched as a trial by telnic. See it here
