television-with-antennaIf you live in the US, you probably know all analog signal will end today as the DTV transition is over. This means if you still have an old TV without an adapter box or bought it recently (LOL), you won’t be able to watch any more TV.

The transition was first scheduled to end on February 17, but Obama insisted many people still didn’t have the resources, so here we are June and many still “don’t have the resources”, which pretty much involve driving to your local Best Buy and getting a converter box (or a new TV? You might be in the need for a new one…). Honestly it was about time, you should already have a new TV.

We’ll see how many people will turn on their TV tomorrow and realize they can’t get signal. It’ll be fun to watch, but again you’ve been warned again and again.

In a world of professional journalism, you wouldn’t expect a fight to start during a web show, even if it’s live. Yesterday, Leo literally freaked out when an editor from TechCrunch suggested he was being biased. Without further ado:

That was tough. And seriously, I don’t think Leo would ever be biased, at least from what I’ve seen from him. That said, I think he overreacted quite a bit, but he assumed that:

Thanks for the post, Mike. Apology accepted. Now that I know what was going on in your mind, I apologize to you.

There seems to be something about the Gillmor Gang that just engenders over the top passion. I’m embarrassed by my overreaction. Peace.

Yeah. Sometimes teen times end late.

Palm, the company that has been failing for months, is trying really hard with the Palm Pre. It has a pretty interesting UI and real multitasking, which makes things pretty interesting. It’s also nice they’re still doing the web app crap they tried with the iPhone (yes, many of those who made the Pre were iPhone engineers – I guess you could tell already). So anyway, check out the ad:

Actually, I kinda liked it. It doesn’t show any of the features of the device, other than the UI anyway, so I’m pretty disappointed about that. But the ad is great and maybe it’ll succeed.

Would you give up on your iPhone in order to get a Pre?

China surprises us everyday with its fascinating and amazing culture. And let’s be honest, the world wouldn’t be half as fun if there weren’t dumb people, and by that I mean the Chinese Government. But you know, for a while we’ve been bashing the EU left and right, and it’s not that we’re gonna stop doing that, but hey, we need to bash the others too.

But I don’t know. For the last few days I decided to start over with China and try to pretend they’re a very big country with freedom of speech and all that stuff you hear about everyday. Today they’re doing something pretty awesome and that’s simply banning every social netowork out there, because you know, you really don’t need FaceBook or Twitter to be a dumb person.

But wait a sec, it’s not just social networks! Sites like Live.com and Bing (which is only a few days old) have been blocked as well. And you don’t block Google, no! They’re not even competitors or offer similar services!

So there you have it: another work towards success… at failing miserably at online policies, or pretty much everything else for that matter.

Because people who think information should be filtered are:

CLARIFICATION: We learned some people got upset at the overall tone of this post, so I thought I should clarify I have nothing against the Chinese or the Chinese culture. I simply hate people who believe information should be filtered, no matter if they are Chinese, American or European. I hope that was cleared up and enjoy PureElite. =)

You probably know about my mini-series on Google Chrome and how it progresses over the months (and hopefully not years) of developments. After bashing Chrome 2 quite a bit, maybe it’s time to say anything positive about those guys? They deserve it.

As you probably noticed from the screenshot above, yes, it still uses a standard non-customized window, which looks extremely inconsistent. But instead of destroying Google to no end, let me just tell you they’ve got the vast majority of the features you’d find on Windows have been implemented, like almost full tab support, the ability to remove thumbnails on the start page and all sorts of cool stuff I’d expect to be fit and finish, but Google thought otherwise. Here are some screens:

So you get the idea: they’re really getting all the Windows coolness in there. The bookmarks feature isn’t fully working yet, which is kind of a bummer. Oh, and apparently you can’t create a shortcut from a page on your desktop yet. More interestingly:

optionsYeah, “TODO”. Well, at least they’ve added a settings window! Now let’s see how long it takes Google to finish it. Please focus on it hard, people need Chrome for Linux

Or maybe they’re extremely happy with Firefox and don’t intend to move, but let’s all do Google kind of a favor, k? And let’s face it, if you want a small browser that does 30% of what regular browsers do, Chrome is a good choice, and with netbooks getting more and more popular, this might be the future.
